Bottom up - Refugees Forward

One of the ideas launched by Citylab010: Refugees Forward

Our diverse population is a magnificent source of ideas and inspiration. Citylab010 is an open market that connects any Rotterdam with a great idea to the recourses, expertise or partners needed to make their idea happen. In 2018 one of the ideas launched by Citylab010 was Refugees Forward. This is a four-month program that helps refugees with entrepreneurial aspirations start their own business, gain economic independence and become productive citizens of their new home city.

Refugees Forward offers courses from renowned institutions such as the Erasmus Center for Entrepreneurship and Team Academy, coaching by successful Rotterdam based entrepreneurs and support from a dedicated network of reputable businesses and organisations such as the Cambridge Innovation Centre, Deloitte, Mazars, Uber, DLA Piper, Bouwkeet, Linklaters and others.

Rotterdammers are full of good ideas that will improve the city. With this in mind, the municipality of Rotterdam has recently launched an instrument: CityLab010. It's simple. Anyone can share their idea for Rotterdam with others on the platform: The person who shares a plan must clearly indicate what expertise he or she thinks they will need to develop the idea into a feasible plan. Others can respond directly to plans or contact the initiator. In this way, everyone can contribute to making a plan (even) better and thinking about financial ways to implement a plan. To be eligible for a financial contribution from the municipality, plans must both benefit the city and be innovative. The latter can also be the result of new partnerships or new combinations of subjects that can lead to a solution.
