Resilient Rotterdam: from lagging to leading.
Bospolder Tussendijken (BoTu) is one of the most challenging urban neighbourhoods of the Netherlands. Its statistics show large numbers of low-income households, with many of them struggling with long-term poverty. However, the neighbourhood is well-known for its ‘make it happen’-spirit and its resident participation. With efforts to ensure its resident participation, it creates a mechanism to improve important social factors such as poverty, low education and low employment rates. The Resilient BoTu 2028 program further ensures intensive collaboration between residents, the municipality and other partners to greatly improve their resilience. Paired with this program, BoTu is designated one of five neighbourhoods to be the first to make the transition to sustainable zero emission energy system.
