Smart Energy Systems: subsidy round 5 opened!
From April 19 until June 7, 2023, entrepreneurs who have a smart and sustainable solution for energy systems can apply for a subsidy in the Smart Energy Systems (SES) program. Participants can apply for a maximum amount of € 100.000,- to ensure their innovative solutions can be made commercially applicable.

Alderman Chantal Zeegers (concerned with Climate, Building and Living): “The Smart Energy Systems subsidy has supported 27 innovation projects so far, which has allowed us to make several parts of the energy system of Rotterdam more sustainable. With this new subsidy round we hope to motivate even more entrepreneurs to further develop their solutions and to contribute to a future-proof Rotterdam.”

Rotterdam innovation city
With the SES-subsidy, the municipality of Rotterdam supports entrepreneurs with their experimental design, by financing a feasibility study or a pilot of their innovative solution for energy systems. A clean, reliable, and robust energy system is fundamental. With the SES-program, the municipality enables entrepreneurs to work on clean, smart, and efficient energy systems. Moreover, the program contributes to employment opportunities and economic activity. As such, Rotterdam keeps developing itself as innovative city and region. Next to the subsidy, the selected entrepreneurs gain access to a network of partners and knowledge.
These entrepreneurs make use of the SES-subsidy
From earlier rounds of the SES-subsidy, successful projects and follow-up investments have emerged. 27 entrepreneurs have moved their innovative projects forward with the help of the subsidy. The type of projects differ greatly. For example, Gradyent worked on a ‘digital twin’ for the heat network and S4Energie worked on the electrification of cranes used in the port.
